What is mentoring?

Our vision of mentoring is a trusting, personal relationship in which the mentor listens, advises and empowers the entrepreneur they are partnered with to help and achieve their full potential. Mentors act as a sounding board and guide to help their partner develop leadership, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities to grapple with the stresses of entrepreneurship.

For the most part, the development of you the entrepreneur will form the basis of the relationship, however, the mentoring relationship is mutually beneficial for you and your mentor, allowing growth on all levels. Therefore, it is important that you engage and listen to the advice your mentor gives you, acting on it effectively and raising questions and concerns with your mentor.

Additionally, as the entrepreneur, you must drive the relationship and let your mentor know the areas you would like to focus so he or she can help you achieve your professional and personal goals.

Mentoring can be commonly confused with many other types of personal support, therefore, it is important to note that is NOT the following:

  • Coaching
  • Training
  • Consultancy
  • Advisory services
  • A boss-employee style relationship

What happens at the mentorship boot-camp?

The mentorship boot-camp takes place over a nine-day period with the commitment time being both different for the mentor and the entrepreneur as follows:

Prior to the boot camp, there will be a mentors orientation meeting where the mentors will be introduced to the Keroche Foundation Hand Up Initiative and its mission, vision and objectives. The mentee entrepreneurs will at this time have the exclusive opportunity to meet all the mentors then.

At the mentorship boot camp, the mentees will have the opportunity to visit the Keroche Breweries plant in Naivasha, and thereafter engage with different masters of industry. After the nine-day mentorship boot-camp, the mentees will undergo a thorough nine month mentorship and evaluation programme.

I have a business idea and I've just registered my business though I haven't started it yet. Can I still participate?

Unfortunately no. The mentorship programme is designed to assist entrepreneurs who have been operating a business for more than three (3) years.

The good news, though, is that Keroche Foundation will soon be rolling out an initiative that will favour entrepreneurs like you and provide them with regular networking forums that will benefit and positively impact their businesses.

What is the time commitment expected of me?

The time commitment required to participate in the programme is minimal. Mentee entrepreneurs are asked to attend the initial mentorship boot-camp for nine days. Afterwards, entrepreneurs are expected to commit one day per month over the next nine months to working with Keroche Foundation’s trainers and coaches on building and growing their businesses and enhancing its overall operations.
Mentee entrepreneurs will also be expected to complete a report every quarter.

Can I bring my business partner/employees/team with me to the boot-camp?

No. During the boot-camp only the business owner/ultimate decision maker will participate.

However, during the nine-months coaching, monitoring and evaluation process, the business partners, employees and teams can be involved.

Will it cost me anything to participate?

There are no financial costs for participants except travel/transport costs to select venues for the boot-camps, business clinics and seminars.

Can I send a company representative if I can't commit to the nine-day boot-camp?

Unfortunately no. It’s essential that you commit to attend the nine-day workshop as you will have the opportunity to network with mentors, trainers, coaches and other entrepreneurs for a year-long relationship of mutual growth and development.
